This is a beautiful early 18th Century vernacular Shepherds cupboard from the Carpathian Highlands. Its simple and naive construction out of hardwood, is as primitive as you can get, with the old doors time warped and tight fitting, and the hinges loose and crudely attached. This remarkable cupboard was never intended to look good, and was simply 'thrown together' to serve a purpose. Now, with its time worn patina, it's a work of art.

Some evidence of more recent repairs, however on the whole a wonderful untouched piece.
