It was a warm African summer, when the birth of a son sparked the beginning of a great adventure. Grounded by humble beginnings, the boy grew up with a love for the outdoors, and would spend most of his time alone, exploring the world around him.

Years later, sat high up in an Acacia tree, the boy looked out over his playground, the birthplace of mankind, an ancient landscape full of beauty and danger in equal measure, and there as he soaked up the last warmth of the sun, something happened that would change the course of this young boys life forever.

BEHIND KIERAN RIVER JONES

It was a warm African summer, when the birth of a son sparked the beginning of a great adventure. Grounded by humble beginnings, the boy grew up with a love for the outdoors, and would spend most of his time alone, exploring the world around him.

Years later, sat high up in an Acacia tree, the boy looked out over his playground, the birthplace of mankind, an ancient landscape full of beauty and danger in equal measure, and there as he soaked up the last warmth of the sun, something happened that would change the course of this young boys life forever.

The dark silhouette of a rogue  juvenile elephant slowly came towards the boy, majestic and wild, brave and kind. Turning his head up towards where the boy was sat, the bull flapped his ears and swayed his head, not in anger but enthusiasm, there was a primal knowing and understanding between them - I mean you no harm.

The boy watched mesmerised, and in that moment recognised something in this misfit of the animal kingdom, a similarity in himself, based on their mutual longing for the chance to be something different, for a life of freedom.

Although the sun was setting, the humidity was rising and when the heavens opened, the warm African rain washed the dust off the elephants back, and burned away all the uncertainty, doubt and fears the boy had ever had in himself.

Baptised by the gods of Africa, this chance encounter with a rebellious rogue elephant formed the identity of this young boy,

He now knew who he was... but more importantly, who he was becoming...

Kieran River Jones

the reckless optimist

about kieran

---

Kieran was born in South Africa, and spent much of his time outdoors and getting up to mischief. After taking a snake into school aged 9, he had his first run in with his teacher and headmaster; This clash of personalities became a regular event and he would find himself in detention more often than not.

His childhood in Africa inspired Kieran, and formed his love for wildlife, tribal art, and culture, and after moving to England as a teenager, he would find himself rummaging around antique shops, drawn to objects that reminded him of home and items that evoked a sense of adventure.

After leaving college Kieran moved to rural Herefordshire, and started a family.  With very little formal education, he decided to follow his instincts and his eye for unique objects and start an antiques business.  As time went on, his unique mix of objects attracted a worldwide audience and he was soon shipping items off to Europe, Australia the US and even Japan, and getting regular calls from interior designers and a celebrity client base.

Kieran featured in a number of magazine articles and found himself regularly turning down TV opportunities - insisting the spotlight and camera just wasn't for him. A more appealing prospect came along, when he was approached by an independent magazine, giving Kieran a regular 8 page spread where he could interview and write about some of the best dealers in the country, many of which have now become friends.

Now in his mid thirties, Kieran lives in a beautiful cottage on the Welsh border, with his wife and four children. Kieran River Jones continues to evolve, with its core love for exploration, Africa and natural history forming the main inspiration for its style and collection.
