Two plane tickets, a suitcase and a Jeep ready to collect when we arrived in Phoenix - that was the extent of our planning before we set off for Arizona. We had ten days to explore and no plans. We arrived in Phoenix late, grabbed a burrito and a few bottles of Modelo, then checked into a local hotel for night one. Little did we know at the time, that this would be our last night in a bed for the rest of the trip.

We woke up the following morning excited and eager to explore, Pheonix was stunning, but we wanted to get out of the city and head off the beaten track. The closest Walmart seemed a good place to grab some supplies... we loaded a trolley with bottles of water, easy to grab food and snacks, then walking past the camping section and spotting a two man tent... we decided to throw that in too along with a blanket, the last item was a map.

Looking at the map for the first time, Amanda spotted an isolated body of water, a Lake, so we decided we'd head in that direction... not knowing what is was, or what we'd find on the way. We spent the day popping into antique shops and small towns, and eventually arrived at the Lake which thankfully allowed camping. In the middle of nowhere, and pitch black, we pitched up our tent on a pebble beach on the edge of the Lake that we couldn't see... and settled in for the night. With nothing soft to sleep on, and just a blanket, we had by far the most uncomfortable and sweltering nights sleep of our lives. Rolling from one side to another, to give one half of our bodies relief from the penetrating stones underneath. Eventually, the sun broke, and we unzipped our tent to most incredible views. The Lake was stunning, and without realising it, we were only meters away from the waters edge. After a bottle of water, and far too sweet croissants, we opened the map and pointed to another random destination, and off we went.

This continued for the remainder of the trip, we spent our days searching for unique and amazing items in little antique shops, stopped of for adventures along the way, speedboating, quad biking through the Sedona desert and rafting through canyons, we ate Bison steaks with cactus fries and would spend our evenings in Bear and Rattlesnake infested National parks. We explored Native American ruins, and learned about the culture and history of the Navajo people and even managed to buy a couple of old Navajo rugs.

At the end of the trip we realised that we had bought far more than we could fit into our little suitcase, so we headed back to Walmart to buy 4 large suitcases and filled them with all of our treasures. This was one hell of an adventure!
